چکیده

Some recent developments in the modeling of composite materials using the boundary element method (BEM) are presented in this paper. The boundary integral equation for 3D multi-domain elasticity problems is reviewed. Difficulties in dealing with nearly-singular integrals, which arise in the BEM modeling of composite materials with closely packed fillers or of thin films, are discussed. New and improved techniques to deal with the nearly-singular integrals in the 3D elasticity BEM are presented. Numerical examples of layered thin films and composites with randomly distributed particles and fibers are studied. The advantages and limitations of the BEM approach in modeling advanced composites are also discussed. The developed BEM with multi-domain and thin-body capabilities is demonstrated to be a promising tool for simulations and characterization of various composite materials. q 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Modified Fixed Grid Finite Element Method to Solve 3D Elasticity Problems of Functionally Graded Materials

In the present paper, applicability of the modified fixed grid finite element method in solution of three dimensional elasticity problems of functionally graded materials is investigated. In the non-boundary-fitted meshes, the elements are not conforming to the domain boundaries and the boundary nodes which are used in the traditional finite element method for the application of boundary condit...

Local Imperfection Effects on Thermal Buckling Behavior of Composite Fiber Reinforced Truncated Conical Liner

Thermal buckling behavior of truncated conical liner reinforced by laminated composite is investigated in the presence of a general initial imperfection. For this purpose, the method of virtual work and first-order strain-deformation shell theory are employed to extract equilibrium equations. To this end, a finite element code is developed using the 3D 8-node shell element with six degrees of f...

Free vibration analysisof soft-core composite-faced sandwich plates using three-dimensional finite element method

In this paper, natural frequencies of the sandwich plates with soft flexible core and composite face sheets are obtained. Three-Dimensional (3D) finite element method (FEM) is used for constructing and analyzing of the sandwich plates to obtain their natural frequencies. Continuity conditions for transverse shear stresses at the interfaces as well as transverse flexibility and transverse normal...
